Left-handed Southern-style Functional Stoneware Pottery.

Howdy, Gregg Matthews here.
I'm a potter living in the Florida Panhandle, making fully-functional* items from scratch, using mud, water, fire and plenty of air.
Everything is completely handmade in my home studio from
lumps of raw clay, which are spun up on my potter's wheel, glazed with my handmade glazes, and then fired in my kilns to ~2000°F, twice. Most ware then gets images put on: these are my own designs based on my original drawings and photos, or vintage images. These pieces then get a third firing to fuse the iron-rich image into the glaze.
Making my own glazes ensures they're completely
lead-free & food-safe for you and yours, be they kids, spouses or pets.

  • Eat off it, drink out of it, feed the cats and dogs and kids with it.
  • Feel free to throw it in the oven, microwave, and dishwasher.  Handwashing is preferred, though it handles everyday life with ease.
  • The clay and glaze is hard and durable; it's known as mid-fire stoneware.

* it's fully-"functional" as in, you can use it.  Please do!

Semi-Official ARTIST BIO:
I’m Gregg Matthews, the creative force of Southpaw Pots, a one-man shop making functional stoneware pottery in Tallahassee Florida. Everything is handmade in my studio workshop, from the pots to the glazes to the images created from my own drawings, photos, or vintage designs.
My inspiration comes from the quirky people and the flora & fauna of the Florida Panhandle. If it’s sunny or salty that’s even better. This spirit is captured in the "
sTumblers"; they're meant for imbibing, and I've been told they keep drinks colder longer.
A lifetime interest in art and a desire to experiment, question, and learn new techniques helped me find and focus on ways to put two-dimensional images on three-dimensional pots. I find this intersection of technology and tradition deeply gratifying.
This ware is intended for modern life: it’s food-safe, and it survives the dishwasher & microwave. Enjoy using it in good health. Cheers!
